Work No. 202 — 2026
Spring Dawn distils the fragile stillness of the first moments of a spring morning, when light is yet suspended between night and day.
Hand-modelled flowers, emblems of renewal, emerge from darkness toward radiance. At the centre, a serene blue field evokes the freshness of early air, while stencilled geometric motifs articulate the threshold of dawn, the moment at which night dissolves into day and a mystical contemplation takes hold. The white openwork pattern references the moshabak, the latticed windows of Persian houses, traditionally cleaned and polished in anticipation of spring. Alongside it, the boteh jegheh in green and gold, one of the oldest motifs in Persian art, derived from the bent cypress, stands for humility and endurance against the storms of time.
The flowers and boteh jegheh are sculpted entirely by hand in modelling paste, while the geometric patterns are applied through stencil, producing a raised, tactile surface. Gold leaf, laid in irregular layers across these motifs, captures the light as the early sun would.
Through the vocabulary of Persian ornament, the work becomes a visual translation of morning: enigmatic, and full of hope for the light.
